Coming south on Highway One:

EVERY First Saturday of the month since January 2003 we've returned to this beautiful Monterey pine forest to restore a 15-acre area formerly dominated by the weedy French Broom on the East Side of Point Lobos State Reserve. Join us on a volunteer/docent led walk along one Elkhorn Slough Reserve's beautiful trails. Come experience oak woodland, marsh, tidal flats, mudflats, prairie, the plants and animals therein, and possibly more. Aware winning exhibits in our Visitor Center. Visitor Center and picnic area are free. There is a $2.50 fee for day-use of the trails. No direct fee for the guided walk.
Docent-led tours of the Reserve are held every Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
There is also an early birding walk the first Saturday of every month at 8:30 a.m.
All tours meet at the Visitor Center, rain or shine.

Coming south on Highway One:

CNPS Weed Bash - Soberanes Creek

What?
Every 3rd Sunday (since January 2003!) we assemble volunteers to help restore coastal habitats by removing invasive plants such as Cape ivy from one of Monterey County's most beautiful coastal locations. Easy or difficult tasks depending on your mood.
Where?
The project site is 7 miles south of Hwy 1 but we meet at the Rio Rd. Park n Ride next to the Black Bear Diner across from the Chevron gas station. Then we carpool 7 miles south of Carmel River in consideration of everyone's needs and schedules.
Why?
Lot's of fun and ocean spray at a stunningly beautiful location. Its also a fulfilling project and you'll learn alot while contributing to the cause of helping our beautiful wild lands!
How?
Bring water, wear gardening type, layered clothing, closed-toed and sturdy, shoes, and wear long-sleeves and pants. Healthy and delicious snacks are provided. You'll love it!!

Fitz Wetlands Educational Resource Center
From Highway 1 southbound, take the CA 152 exit, Exit 426, to Watsonville/Gilroy. This is the exit just after Airport Blvd. Go right at the light onto Green Valley Road; after two more lights, this becomes Harkins Slough Road. Continue to the stop sign just before the high school, and go right as far as you can go to the top of the hill. The Fitz WERC is in the corner of the very large parking lot, with the greenhouse on the left.

Restoration Planting at Natividad Creek

Description:
Volunteers are invited to help Return of the Natives clean up trash, remove invasive weeds, and plant native plants at Natividad Creek Park in Salinas. Ongoing efforts by RON volunteers have helped to restore Natividad Creek Park as a habitat for native wildlife and a popular recreational area for the people of Salinas.
A great family activity that is FREE.
Tools, water and great snacks provided for this special event!

Elkhorn Slough Reserve Tours
Description:
Join us on a volunteer/docent led walk along one Elkhorn Slough Reserve's beautiful trails. Come experience oak woodland, marsh, tidal flats, mudflats, prairie, the plants and animals therein, and possibly more. Aware winning exhibits in our Visitor Center. Visitor Center and picnic area are free. There is a $2.50 fee for day-use of the trails. No direct fee for the guided walk.
Docent-led tours of the Reserve are held every Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
There is also an early birding walk the first Saturday of every month at 8:30 a.m.
All tours meet at the Visitor Center, rain or shine.

Every Sunday at 1:30 pm
Meet at the Nature Center for a guided walk in nearby wetlands. All ages are welcome. Binoculars will be provided.
Use http://www.watsonvilleslough.org/directions.html as a link to give you a map of Watsonville and our meeting location. But Harkins Slough Road might cause some confusion, so these instructions will be helpful:
Harkins Slough Road is a paved road that travels through the sloughs. At some intersections, it is only open in the summer. The intersection at Green Valley Road, and the intersection at Walker Road/Ford St. are not reliable approaches to the Nature Center.
Here are your best approaches:
Coming south on Highway One:
1. Take the Main Street/Highway 152 exit. Continue on Main Street, then right on Ohlone Parkway. Travel past the Overlook Shopping Center, then left on Harkins Slough Road. Just past the tennis courts, turn left into parking lot.
or
2. Continue on Main Street to Ramsay Park. Travel all the way to the back of the park, past the skateboard park, left at the soccer dome.
Coming north on Highway One:
Take the Green Valley Road exit to Main Street. Right on Main Street, then continue as described above, traveling on Ohlone Parkway or through Ramsay Park.

You'll have access to 8,000 acres of beautiful vistas and natural habitats while you help improve their health and the health of your body and soul by removing invasive weeds, collection native seeds, planting native plants, helping with plant inventories and learning to use new tools to map and restore wild lands.
Phone in before you attend your first volunteer day and prepare to arrive at 945am to fill out volunteer form.
Watsonville Wetlands Watch Docent Traini

Description:
The Watsonville Wetlands Watch 2012 Docent Training Program will begin in late January. Local experts will provide an inside look at the wetlands of Watsonville, including the ecology, history and restoration of the wetlands. This 7-week program includes Wednesday evening presentations and Saturday morning field trips.
New docents will be prepared to assist with field trips and lead walks. Docents also have the opportunity to help with community events, work in the library or greenhouse at the Fitz Wetlands Education Resource Center, work on special projects, and participate in wetlands restoration. There is a need for bilingual (Spanish/English) docents, but being bilingual is not requirement.

SCRAP - San Lorenzo River Cleanup

Description:
Santa Cruz Rivers and Parks (S.C.R.A.P) is a grassroots organization working to revive urban rivers and parkways. The current focus of SCRAP is the San Lorenzo River from Highway 1 to the ocean.
Bring: Hat, water, snack and layers. We'll provide the gloves, trash buckets, and hand sanitizer.

EVERY First Saturday of the month since January 2003 we've returned to this beautiful Monterey pine forest to restore a 15-acre area formerly dominated by the weedy French Broom on the East Side of Point Lobos State Reserve. The event runs from 1-4pm. We�ll use several techniques to remove French broom and help restore this area that wants to thrive
with native plants. Meet at 1pm in Carmel on Rio Rd. in the Park n� Ride in front of the now-closed Black Bear Diner
(across from the Chevron Gas Station) one block from Hwy 1. All supplies
provided. Bring a friend, water, and a snack.
