Elkhorn Slough Reserve Tours
- Description:
- Join us on a volunteer/docent led walk along one Elkhorn Slough Reserve's beautiful trails. Come experience oak woodland, marsh, tidal flats, mudflats, prairie, the plants and animals therein, and possibly more. Aware winning exhibits in our Visitor Center. Visitor Center and picnic area are free. There is a $2.50 fee for day-use of the trails. No direct fee for the guided walk.
Docent-led tours of the Reserve are held every Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
There is also an early birding walk the first Saturday of every month at 8:30 a.m.
All tours meet at the Visitor Center, rain or shine.

[9:00am] Hike the Waterfall Trail
- Description:
- The Waterfall Trail: With or without water in the waterfall (and there just might be right now!), this is a great opportunity to look for early wildflowers as you wind your way up through a shady canyon to Mesa Pond. There are a few stairs to climb, but they’re worth it. Elevation gain: 500 ft. Distance: 2.5 miles. Bring water, a snack, and shoes with good treads.
[10:00am] Planting at Natividad Creek Park!
- Description:
- Community service event: Help us plant native plants and pick up trash & debris at Natividad Creek Park in Salinas! Follow the signs to the picnic benches by the playground; water, snacks, and tools are provided. Individuals, families, and volunteer groups are all welcome to join us in helping our to beautify our park!
