Pink buckbrush and white buckbrush

Bruce Delgado wrote
In March there were bluish pink buckbrush and white buckbrush in the northern Ventana Wilderness area a couple of miles north of Skinner Ridge on our walk to that ridge from White Rock Gun Club. It was the first time I noticed non-white buckbrush flowers but decided it was just a color variation cuz plants of different colored flowers were otherwise indistinguishable to me.
I'm glad to hear others seeing and commenting on this so I can put my observations in better perspective.

More ceanothus pics. The first two are the pink ones and the next is the pure white one. The last looks like a cross between the pink and the white one [mostly white, by far].

I havn't seen Ceanothus cuneatus var. cuneatus that pink either, but the blue ones were placed in the var ramulosus for a time. The name was then placed in synonymy for a while. Now it seems the name might reappear because there are troubles with the name cuneatus. the name ramulosus may replace it! Befuddlement never ends.
Dieter Wilken knows the Ceanothus very well. He might be able give you some ideas.

Hi Folks! This should catch most of us who were at Marywood in March (and some who weren't). Generally I'm impressed w/ the Ceanothus flowers' stamina in the past month of wetness, altho it looks as if the cuneatus at my house won't set seed.

I spent the wknd at marywood last week. The ceanothus were all in bloom, and the pink ones which were in more sun, were VERY pink. They were right next to other c. cuneatus types which were not pink, but very white and some had a touch of blue in them, but those white/bluish ones have a very different flower form to them. Do you think you might be able to pass this on to randy and some of the other folks for feedback? I’m very curious about it. Also, the c. pappilosus [my guess] was in full bloom and what gorgeous color! Here’s some pics.
